Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Hagio application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”) operated by Hagio (“we”, “us”, “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Hagio. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Account Registration

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • One account per person. Sharing accounts is not permitted.
  • You must promptly notify us at security@hagio.chat if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

4. Invite-Only Phase

During pre-public phases, Hagio reserves the right to limit account creation to invited email addresses and to decline registration requests from non-invited addresses. This restriction will be removed or amended at public launch.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to promote illegal activity.
  • Attempt to circumvent security measures, rate limits, or access controls.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
  • Harass, abuse, or threaten any person through the Service.
  • Use the Service to generate content that contradicts Catholic teaching in a way that misrepresents it as authentic guidance.
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Resell, redistribute, or sublicense access to the Service without permission.

6. Content

Your content

You retain ownership of the messages and content you submit to the Service. By using the Service, you grant Hagio a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, encrypt, transmit, and process your content solely as necessary to provide and improve the Service.

AI-generated content

AI-generated responses are provided for spiritual guidance purposes and do not constitute professional, medical, legal, psychological, or theological advice. You acknowledge that AI responses may contain inaccuracies and should be considered alongside, not as a replacement for, authoritative sources.

7. Intellectual Property

The Hagio name, logo, design, and underlying technology are the property of Hagio and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. The Catechism of the Catholic Church and related texts referenced by the Service are the property of the Holy See and are used in accordance with applicable permissions.

Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use the Hagio brand, trademarks, or logos without our prior written consent.

8. Spiritual Guidance Disclaimer

Hagio offers spiritual guidance grounded in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It is not a substitute for:

  • The Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Spiritual direction by a priest
  • Professional counselling, medical advice, or therapy

For spiritual direction, a Catholic priest should be sought. If you are experiencing a crisis, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services.

9. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, HAGIO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or if required by law.

You may delete your account at any time through Settings → Delete account. Upon deletion, all your data — including conversations, encryption keys, and session tokens — is permanently erased.

11. Refund Policy

Details of our refund and cancellation policy, including your rights under the EU 14-day right of withdrawal for digital content, will be published here when paid features become available.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Hagio is incorporated. Details of the governing jurisdiction and dispute resolution process will be confirmed upon entity registration and published here.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
